As I started writing this blog, it takes me to a familiar situation from a few years ago.
My friend Manuel and I were grabbing a drink when he revealed he had come into a decent sum of money. The dilemma he faced was whether to splurge on a lavish 65″ TV or take a month-long trip to Rio de Janeiro. I was genuinely taken aback by his indecision. I paused for a moment before asking him if he was serious. He confessed, “I don’t know. I really want that TV, but Brazil is tempting…”
So, I presented it to him this way: Imagine a future gathering, of any kind, with anyone. What stories would you prefer to share? Recounting the countless hours spent in front of your new TV, watching movies and playing games, or reliving the adventures of exploring Brazil, encountering new faces, and forging unforgettable memories? Think about it – no one reminisces about long gaming sessions from years past, but the experiences and lessons learned from traveling stay with you forever.
We continued discussing it for a while, and eventually, he made the right decision – he chose Rio de Janeiro. Ever since that trip, whenever we catch up, he never fails to express his gratitude for nudging him towards what he now considers the best decision of his life.

Break Free from the ‘Perfect Time’ Myth
As dawn breaks over the new year, we find ourselves gazing into the future, eager to improve and grow. Travel often tops our list of aspirations. “This year, I will explore new places,” we declare. Our minds wander to distant, uncharted destinations. We envision the thrilling escapades and the diverse cultures we’ll encounter. Plans start to take shape as we research destinations and begin saving funds.
Yet, as time slips by, many will let go of these ambitions, repeatedly sidelined by life’s unexpected twists.
You might convince yourself that today isn’t quite right. “Maybe tomorrow,” you’ll reason. “Today’s too hectic, and my schedule is just too full. It’s simply not the right time.”
The ‘ideal time’ seems to be when your finances are more robust, or your calendar is less packed, or life feels less overwhelming. That’s when you believe you’ll be free to explore. You wait for a time when life slows down a bit, when things feel less chaotic.
But here’s a truth: The perfect time for travel is a myth. The notion that everything will one day fall perfectly into place, allowing you to effortlessly step into a world of adventure, is a mere illusion.
Today might not be ideal — and neither will tomorrow.
Tomorrow, another excuse will emerge.
Tomorrow, bills will still be due.
The week after, your savings might still seem inadequate.
Next month, there will always be social obligations like weddings or birthdays.
The day after , more planning will seem necessary.
Doubts will continue to be whispered in your ear.
Worries about potential dangers will persist.
You’ll still question your choices.
Tomorrow, self-doubt will linger.
Perfection in timing is a fantasy
Perfection doesn’t exist.
Doesn’t adult life often feel like a constant refrain of “Next week will be smoother,” even though we know the chaos is unending?
The most challenging step of any journey is the first one out the door.
Recognizing that the stars will never perfectly align, and that there’s never an ideal moment to begin exploring, is crucial to taking that step.
You need to just go for it. Take the plunge. Believe in yourself that it will all work out. (And it does).
Leaping Beyond Excuses
If I had waited for the ‘right’ day when my group of friends could join me or when I had a little more money, I’d still be stuck in my old routine.
I used to fret over not having saved enough. I doubted my ability to navigate new places or making friends out of thin air.
There was always an excuse to delay my journey.
But sometimes, you need to just jump in. You’re not meant to stay put, held down by the gravitational forces of life, pondering “what if?”.
One day, your tomorrows will run out.
And you’ll be left only with regret and sorrow.
Traveling is an experience that enriches our lives in ways nothing else can. It’s about discovering new cultures, experiencing different lifestyles, and creating memories that last a lifetime. Yet, so often, we find ourselves waiting for that ‘perfect time’ to travel. The truth is, the perfect time is now. So, stop waiting to Greet Your World.
